How I’m Feeling About the Apple Watch

So for Christmas this year, Santa Claus was kind enough to make a list, check it twice, and somehow I was deemed nice (phew!).

That being said, I woke up on Christmas morning and unwrapped a  rectangular box containing the gift that I was most excited about (no, not an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle!), but a 42 mm Space Gray Apple Watch Sport.

I thought now that I’ve been wearing it constantly for about 10 days, why not share my thoughts and feelings on it?

I got the Sport model for two reasons: 1) it’s matte aluminum, which catches my eye, I’m not too into a super shiny, metallic look.  And 2) I like the fluoroelastomer (basically rubber) strap, which is super comfortable for all day wear.

That being said, let’s jump right into the things that I love about this watch.  First up, the ability to customize the watch faces.  I love that Apple allows you to do that, since I’m big on customization.  Need a chronograph watch face for dinner out?  You got it.  Want an easy-to-read digital watch face for everyday? Sure!  Would you like to have Mickey Mouse tapping his foot each second, keeping time with his hands?  Who wouldn’t!  (I’ll be honest here, the Mickey Mouse watch face was a major selling point here, I thought it was so whimsical and fun).

Here you can see the customization button for the watch faces.  Here you’re able to edit the colors, the complications in the actual face, the numbers, among other things.
Like I mentioned earlier, the fluoroelastomer band that Apple uses for the Sport models is wonderful.  It’s super comfortable to wear all day, I’m now at the point where it feels like there is nothing on my wrist.  As you can see in the picture below, the pin closure also makes putting the watch on a breeze.  I’m able to put it on with one hand in the morning, no problems.  Apple even allows  you to swap out bands for your watch, and there are already a whole bunch of third party watch bands available for you to choose from.  I had wanted a link bracelet in Space Gray to match the case, so a quick search on Amazon brought me to a perfect one.  Once it comes in, I’ll make sure to fill you guys in on how it looks, the comfort, etc.

The pin closure on the strap makes putting the watch on and taking it off a breeze.

Chronograph Watch Face
I haven’t had a chance to use all of the different features on the watch yet, but the ones I have used are great.  In this day and age of needing to stay constantly connected, this watch allows you to do just that.  I no longer need to worry that I’m going to miss out on a phone call, or an important family group chat if I leave my phone in my room to charge.  I can answer that phone call, or text message, right from my wrist.  Pretty neat, right?  I love that I can get all of my notifications straight to my wrist, so now I don’t have to pull my phone out of my pocket to see who’s texting me, or who tagged me in a post.  It’s super convenient.

I never went into the Apple Store to try on a watch, but here’s the 42 mm case on my pretty big wrist, and it fits nicely!
Overall, I love having this watch as an extension of my phone.  It’s a combination of fun and productivity, and I’m looking forward to seeing what Apple has up its sleeve next…
